Wine
The Orvieto Classico from Bonacchi is made from 60% Grechetto, 30% Trebbiano Toscano and 10% Verdello. The color of the wine is light green-yellow. The scent is characterized by notes that are reminiscent of white flowers, citrus, peach and a light spice. The taste of the wine is wonderfully fresh with the same recurring aromas. The refined aftertaste ends with the characteristic Italian almond bitterness.
The ideal accompaniment to light fish dishes or vegetarian pasta.
Winery
Cantina Bonacchi is the winery, from Tuscany, run by great-grandson Andrea Bonacchi. Over the decades, the family has expanded considerably in the region. They started with small plots around the Campiglio winery. In 1965, father Giovanni bought 40 hectares of vineyards in the Chianti Montalbo region.
Since the 1980s, the focus has been on quality wines from vineyards in various renowned villages. The family not only has vineyards in the classic Chianti region, but also in the well-known Brunello and Morellino di Scansano.
In neighboring Umbria, there are even vineyards where the white Orvieto comes from.
Area
Tuscany is known for its beautiful hills with magnificent, stately cypress trees and its many vineyards and olive groves. In this region, once largely covered with neglected peach orchards, strawberry fields and a refuge for wolves and wild bears, the conditions for wine growing are fantastic, but this was only officially recognized in the 1990s when the region received its own DOC Bolgheri.
With a Mediterranean climate of warm summers and mild winters, grape varieties such as Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon thrive. The characteristic soils range from limestone and clay to sand and marl, giving the wines their distinctive flavor and complexity. Sangiovese, the region’s main grape, produces Tuscany’s famous Chianti and Brunello di Montalcino . Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon add depth to blends such as the famous Supertuscans. Together, climate and soil are the essence of Tuscany’s winemaking tradition.
